Yū (7 years ago) - What a great training camp we had over the last weekend! It’s our last stretch before the tennis season starts 2 weeks from now. Seeing how much we’ve grown as a team makes me sentimental… Soon we’ll be going off to high school…
Back to training camp though — We ran 20 laps around the court every morning! I still remember when we struggled with 10 laps before we got more serious about endurance training and having a regime.
Mitsue came to help Maki and I prepare lunch (she makes a mean onigiri and tonkatsu!) & to observe our practice matches. Seeing our team play against opponent teams still makes my heart thump with excitement! I’m so proud of everyone’s growth! I can’t wait for nationals!!!! (˘͈ᵕ˘͈)
On the last night of training camp, we played truth or dare! I can’t write about them here, in case someone outside the team stumbles upon this blog, but I won’t forget all the secrets and promises we’ve shared ♡
Yū (4 years ago) - Wow, I haven’t posted in years here but I guess it’s no surprise. Most of us went our separate ways after middle school, to new high schools — new beginnings. We haven’t really stayed in touch as a whole team since then.
Now that we’re about to graduate high school, I guess we’ll begin again some place new, like university. I’ve given it considerable thought, and I decided to go study in the US. The books I’ve read as I was trying to learn more about myself and what I’ve read on social media say that America is a place that values individualism. I want to go there and learn more about the world & myself. Things that go against the grain, learning how to dance, the idea that I can express myself in a society with less shame, eating burgers and having milkshakes for breakfast... I want to experience them for myself.
I guess before I leave Japan, I wanted to say one last farewell to the things I hold dear…
Hope you guys are headed towards the things you want in life too. I know one day I’ll come back to this place… but for now, it’s goodbye ˛(ˊ^ˋ)੭˒˒

Sociology graduate here with a minor in diversity studies who loves to dance & speed skate! Good news: I’m flying back to Japan from the states this weekend. It’ll definitely feel different to live in Japan again from when we were still in high school, but I can’t wait!!
